Why We Do It
There are different ways of knowing and there are different types of evidence. The Data and Assessment Workgroup of the Alliance, in partnership with McKinley Research Group (formerly McDowell Group), has developed a series of indicators that provide useful information about key social determinants of health, risk factors, protective factors, and alcohol misuse outcomes. The selected indicators will help the Alliance track the population health impacts of Alcohol misuse. While there are more communities that the Alliance is focused on than just Adults and Youth (14-18) these data from state-wide surveillance systems are helpful in informing a part of the picture. Other techniques, such as localized community data gathering and community-based and participatory research, will help to inform broader needs, assets, and successes.
